Default Anet, take notes, we got a suggestion for ya...

As announced in off-topic, HoodieRat and I are going to attempt an in-game marriage. We're inviting ArenaNet to be present, and see if you couldn't work on some official implementation of what we're doing unofficially.

Instead of just saying why not, how about come along and watch and see, cause I think others would be interested.

Just a thought, but one I know that has come up before. I just decided to show some initiative.

And if you show up, let us know...

It would help if you told people when and where it is going to be, as some people might be interested in going but don't know where/when it is being held.

I thought there was some in-game marriage actually involving ArenaNet employees in beta already, I'm sure they're already aware of how it's done unofficially.

When we have a time/place, we'll get it out to ya.

We haven't decided on all of it... but lots of it is decided, and we have to have time to post it all together.

Online marraige is by far the geekiest thing ever. Simple as that.

Will be interested to see if Anet shows...

I somewhat agree with Msecorsky. Not that anything's really wrong with in-game marriage, Guild Wars just doesn't seem like the game for this kind of role-playing, especially given how there's almost no actual role-playing throughout the PvE game.

Marriages do happen in some MMORPGS. Whether perceived by some to be "geeky" or not, they're perfectly viable. However, I don't think official marriages really would work out in Guild Wars. In the games I can think of where you can marry, you either only have 1 character per account, or the gender of all of your characters is tied to your account (e.g. Ragnarok Online; so if you entered "M" for sex when you registered your account, all of your characters will be males.) In general, this created more authenticity in-game, because it greatly increased the chances of a real life guy marrying a real life girl. In Guild Wars, since you can pick the genders of your characters so freely, what's to stop the "bride" you married from switching to a male character or vice versa?

I suppose marriages could work on the character level, rather than the account level, but then that could cause some problems with one account/player potentially being married out to 4 different people (Which again is why those games usually either allow only 1 character per account or do it on the account.)

So in short, I'm not questioning the idea itself (marriage has been proven to work in very popular MMORPG's), but the implementation of it, as I just don't think it could really work out.

I agree with this post in general. I'm an avid RPer in a few NWN campaigns and marriages happen often. The focus in these campaigns is role playing because that's what they're designed to be.

I do agree that, if it feels good, do it! It just doesn't seem that GW lends itself overly well to the idea.
